Based on observations from nature or nature museums, such as the structure of minerals and rocks, the details of prepared exhibits under glass and the transparent innards of amphibians in formaldehyde, Mira Makai expands her heavy ceramic creatures through pop cultural

inspirations of, for example, colorshapes of new sneaker fashion trends.

The pop and bright colors provide an ambivalent aesthetic to the mass of material.

Makai's works contain a duality that manifests on the border between inviting unfolding and

repulsive but natural decomposition.

Mira Makai (*1990, HU)  lives and works in Budapest, Hungary. She received her MA Degree from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in the class of Andras Lengyel, in 2016. Her works are part of private collections in Europe and have been exhibited nationally and internationally in the US, Spain, Germany, among others.
