Sojeong Lee (*1993, KR) is a Düsseldorf-based painter whose work explores the relationship between dreams, the subconscious mind, and personal memory. Her artistic practice functions as a visual diary in which she documents fragments of dreams and nightmares. Through surreal, narrative oil paintings, she transforms these inner experiences into symbolic scenes that reflect themes of fear, escape, alienation, and emotional change.

Growing up with manga aesthetics, Lee incorporates elements of comic imagery into her work while stripping them of conventional character traits—replacing expressive eyes with empty circles and pairing pale bodies with red cheeks to create ambiguous, unsettling figures. By combining this visual language with a traditional approach to figurative oil painting, she creates dreamlike compositions in which recurring symbols serve as metaphors for psychological states and the attempt to capture fleeting dream imagery.

In her second solo exhibition at Galerie Droste, entitled Parallel Montage, Lee presents a new cycle of paintings that further develops her exploration of dream imagery and symbolic storytelling.

Lee currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany, and studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the class of Prof. Thomas Scheibitz.
