Tim Sandow (*1988) combines in his figurative painting the imagined cliché of a type of man with an overabundance of details. Here, the painterly forcefulness seduces us to such an extent that the credibility of what is shown is called into question. Seemingly everyday situations appear irritating at second glance. The paintings give the impression of inviting us into their world, yet in the end they always let us bounce off the empty gazes of the picture's subject. Thus, the gaze repeatedly seeks a foothold in the parergon, which at least gives us the deceptive feeling of being a part of this world after all.
Tim Sandow's first monograph offers a comprehensive overview of the works of recent years.
